The Purim holiday begins on Saturday, March 23, commemorating the biblical story described in the Book of Esther. This is the story of the good and brave Queen Esther, her uncle Mordechai, King Ahasverus and the cunning Haman.
Purim is the most joyful Jewish holiday, called the Jewish carnival. During the holiday, costume parties and masquerades are organized, and the hamantash, i.e. Haman’s ears, traditional triangular cookies filled with poppy seeds, dried fruits or jam, are eaten.
On the occasion of Purim, we would like to invite you to the Memorial House for two events.
March 16, 2024 (Saturday) at 11.00 we invite children aged 5+ with their guardians to another of the series of educational workshops organized by the Municipal Cultural Center in Płońsk as part of the project entitled: “Restoring the memory of the former Jewish community in Płońsk – educational workshops in the Płońsk Memorial House”, co-financed by the Association of the Jewish Historical Institute of Poland.
During the workshops, we will discover the history of pre-war cap makers in Płońsk and the secrets of their profession, and we will also learn about the Purim holiday. In the artistic part of the workshops, young participants, with the help of their guardians, will make their own Purim hats and other headgear.
The event will also be an opportunity to visit the permanent exhibition “Glance and recall” at the Memorial House at 2 Warszawska Street in Płońsk.
