Sztetl is a klezmer project founded out of longing for the Jewish culture and tradition that flourished in the interwar period. The band is one of the winners honored at the Polish Radio Nowa Tradycja Folk Festival 2013. The idea to create the band was born in Warsaw, although the musicians creating the collective come from Sejny, a small town in north-eastern Poland. Each musician began learning to play the instrument from an adventure with klezmer music. The band performed in clubs and centers closely related to Jewish culture, the Presidential Palace, weddings and dance events. What distinguishes Sztetl from other klezmer formations is a very strong attachment to traditional sounds and building a repertoire based solely on source materials, sheet music and recordings of Jews from the interwar period.
The band: Radek Polakowski (accordion, violin, vocals), Tomasz Stawiecki (clarinet), Karol Makowski (trombone), Mateusz Bartosiewicz (drums)
