On February 23, 1935, Marian Fuks died in Warsaw – he was a well-known pre-war photographer and pioneer of press photography in Poland, son of Abram Icek and Idesa née Madenberg.
The historian Marian Fuks (1914-2022), born in Płońsk, wrote about his namesake, to whom his father Boruch was related, in the book “Mój wiek XX. Szkice do memuarów” [“My 20th Century. Sketches for Memoirs):
“In the history of Polish photography, especially photography in Warsaw, he left an achievement that saved from oblivion not only the appearance of pre-war Warsaw and many other cities, the faces of state activists and personalities from the world of culture, science and economics, but also left a photographic record of many historical events that would not have found their way into our imagination without his lens.”
On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of death of Marian Fuks, on March 8 (Saturday) at 1 p.m. we would like to invite you to the Memorial House for a lecture by Krzysztof Wójcik [held in Polish] entitled “Marian Fuks – the first photojournalist of the Second Polish Republic” and for a photography exhibition, organized in cooperation with the Nobiscum Foundation, that will be presented in our workshop room until the end of June 2025 [exhibition available in Polish and English].
