From 27 January (International Holocaust Remembrance Day) we invite you to visit the Memorial House and learn about Renia Spiegel’s story, presented in the exhibition “To Leave Something to the World. Beyond the Pages of Renia Spiegel’s Diary” prepared by the Galicia Jewish Museum.
The title and guiding principle of the exhibition are words written by Renia Spiegel (1924-1942) in her diary, written in Przemyśl from January 1939 to July 1942. This diary is a valuable historical source, an important work of personal literature for Polish Jews, and an extraordinary record of the final years of the life of this young, talented woman, murdered by German Nazis in July 1942.
“Now one still has to live, has to strive, try, has to leave something to the world” – these are Renia’s words, written in her diary. Renia herself left a lot to the world: a personal story about love, attachment, empathy, respect, universal values, and an important message about the threats to these values: hatred, exclusion, persecution.
The exhibition is accompanied by a universally resonant film based on excerpts from Renia’s diary, which uniquely combines animation with live action.
The exhibition will be available at the Memorial House until the end of April this year. It is available in Polish and English.
